Drink Wine Like a Pro 101

Today marks the first day of Travis Hinkle’s new Wine Education Program.  Hinkle, Treadsack’s Beverage Director, designed a 12-week introductory class to the world of wine for restaurant professionals, available to all Treadsack employees. Once the 12-week ends, the program will cycle from the beginning three times a year. This will give all employees an opportunity to attend a class at least once.

Hinkle started in restaurants while a college student in Baltimore, and it was there that he fell in love with wine. In 2011, he passed the challenging Advanced Sommelier exam through the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is now studying for the notoriously difficult Master exam. He is in a rare class of beverage professionals in Texas. His passion for wine is expressed through these classes.

Today’s class was “How to Taste Wine Like a Professional.”  For two hours, Hinkle explained the Wine Tasting Grid, highlighting site, nose, and palate as important components in wine tasting.  His future classes will cover the history and regions of wine production, mastering wine service, and how to pair wine with food for the best guest experience.

Hinkle notes that “Food and wine intertwine with our culture. Learning more about culture and art can enrich your life.”  We’re excited to provide not only education and fun to our employees, but in turn, to help provide informed and first rate service to our community.
