Our Private Club
- Liquor License -
You may or may not know that a large part of the Houston Heights is considered a “dry” area. It’s a law that has been in place for a long, long time-even before prohibition. (A blog post here describes the history in greater detail.)
What you may not know is that there is a clause in the TABC code that notes that in dry areas, alcohol may be served to members of a private club with the correct license. We have one of these licenses, and as such in order to purchase alcohol at Down House you must become a member of our private club.
What does this mean to you? It’s simple: Your server or bartender will ask you for your drivers license, and he or she will “swipe” you into the club. The information goes to TABC and to us, and we will not (and cannot, legally) use your information for marketing or advertising or anything other than keeping records of our club members.
- Reservations -
Would you like to have your party, family gathering, or birthday at Down House? We can help make that happen. We have a private room area opened for reservations of 8-14 people. Just give us a call, and our hostess will work out the details with you.
We do have a $50 charge for reservations that are a no-show, cancelled before 24 hours of reservation, or more than 30 minutes late. If you have a party of more than 14, please e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We sincerely apologize, but we don’t take reservations during Saturday & Sunday brunch (9a-3p), or evenings of Friday, Saturday, & Sunday (5p-12a). Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. Please contact 713-864-3696.
